Reader Request Monday's - Cable Car Beer

I'm sure when Claire requested a cocktail, she probably was hoping for a homemade cocktail with liquor and mixers. Maybe even some funky fruit garnish or such. Something unique, something fun, something new to try to act all fancy pants at her next dinner party. Trust me...a nice strong homemade cocktail would have settled nicely in my belly this weekend. But the truth is...it didn't happen. And that beer in the picture? I drank it all last week before I took a picture, so I had to borrow the image above.

I have half given up looking for reasonable priced beer that has lots of flavor. But walking through Winn Dixie the other day, a nice cold beer was sounding pretty damn good. I stared blankly at the selection in front of me. Not really wanting to spend $10 on a 6-pack of Sam Adams, and not wanting yet ANOTHER Yuengling. And then I spotted it. A cute package that I had never seen before. Cable Car Amber Ale. I had never seen it before, and trust me, I would have noticed. But I was a little skeptical of the price. $6.99??? Hmm....

So I thought, why not? Let's try it.

And I tried it.

And I really really liked it!

And I thought that, while it's not a homemade cocktail, it's a beer that's tasty and that you should know about. The unfortunate thing about it is that it's only available in a few states: CA, FL, GA, LA, AL, IL, MN, and MI. But if you see it, it's totally worth the $6.99, especially in places like this where good beer comes at a steep price.

So Claire, I'm not sure if your into craft beer, but hopefully this might have interested you?!

And of course, it's Reader Request Monday, so leave me a comment below on what you would like to see next Monday on Kacey's Kitchen!

Please see the previous post for to see what I made from last weeks request!

  1. Oh please- Kacey... This looks PERFECT! I might need to be visiting CA, FL, GA, LA, AL, IL, MN, and MI to get some!

I wish I had some for the superbowl this weekend!

    thanks for sharing!

  2. Any idea if this is made in SF? The website is janky and I can't see it.

  3. Kacey - So excited that you picked up Cable Car Amber Ale and enjoyed it! We recently updated our retails and are hoping to expand into new markets soon. Cable Car beers are now available at: BevMo in California and Arizona; Winn Dixie in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida and at Whole Foods in Illinois, Michigan, and Nebraska. Also, keep your eyes open for our newest flavor. We are launching Cable Car IPA soon! Thank you for sharing your experience with Cable Car

  4. I'll have to look again at the packaging. I think it's either bottled or packaged in NYS, but it doesn't make sense that it's cable car beer anywhere else than SF.

I look forward to trying the IPA!

  5. Oooh - I'll definitely have to check it out when I get back to CA. Looking forward to the IPA - my fave!

  6. Man, I am in need of a nice cold beer. Though, I'm sure superbowl will be filled with delicious beers once i make a much needed trip to my trusty liquor store!

  7. I think you should make Molotov Cupcakes :-D
