Applesauce

Tis the season for applesauce!

Can you believe I've never made my own applesauce before?  Me neither!  I never really thought about making it.  Maybe I've just had plenty of other people in my life to make it for me, who knows.  But after receiving the Bountiful Basket last week, I figured now was just a good of time as any.

So freaking easy, I can't believe I never made it before.  Plus, it's super super good.

Applesauce
By Kacey's Kitchen & nearly every other kitchen
  • 3-4 lbs peeled, cored and chunked apples
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  1. Put all ingredients in a large pot.  Bring to boil and then reduce heat and simmer for approximately 30 minutes, or until tender and mashable.
  2. Remove from heat and mash with a potato masher until desired texture is reached.  I like mine really chunky.

  3. We go apple picking. The kids LOVE home made applesauce. I try for a couple years the stove top method and decide that if I have to spend one more minute of my life mashing apples I will go crazy. I now make them in the crock pot. Easier than stove top. The house smells delicious. I don't mash and am only moderately crazy but not at the fault of the applesauce. The kids get what they love. =)
